Set a strong master password
Your master password is the key to all your stored passwords—so make it long, unique, and memorable. Proton Pass also supports two‑factor authentication (2FA) for an extra security layer.
Never forget this password. Proton cannot reset it for you—only you hold the keys.

Install the browser extension
Proton Pass works best as a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, or Safari. It will autofill passwords, generate new ones, and offer to save new logins as you browse.

Install the mobile app (optional)

A few settings will make Proton Pass more convenient and more secure from day one.
Set up biometric unlock
On mobile and some desktop platforms, you can use fingerprint or face unlock to access your vault quickly without typing your master password every time.
Use the password generator
When creating new accounts, let Proton Pass generate a strong, random password for you. Aim for at least 16–20 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
Enable auto‑fill and auto‑save
Turn on auto‑fill to have Proton Pass enter your credentials automatically on login pages. Enable auto‑save so it offers to store new passwords when you sign up for services.
Organize with vaults and aliases
Proton Pass lets you create multiple vaults for different purposes (personal, work, shared). You can also generate email aliases to protect your real email address when signing up for services.
